OU Launches 50 hr Programme on “English Conversational Skills”

Hyderabad, Sept 24 (INN): The Directorate of Placement Services, Osmania University has launched the Inaugural function of the 50 hour Programme on “English Conversational Skills” for Post Graduate Students of Dept. of Commerce, at Conference Hall, Dept. of Commerce, University College of Commerce & Business Management, Osmania University.

Prof. K V Achalapathi, Director, Directorate of Placement Services, Osmania University welcomed the gathering and explained that the objective of the programme was to impart training in soft skills with a focus on conversational skills in English to instill and increase confidence levels in the students to confidently converse in English which would help the participants well – groomed and presentable with the recruiters.

Prof. S Satyanarayana, Vice – Chancellor, Osmania University has delivered Chief – Guest Address emphasizing on the importance of the communication skills. He asked the students to increase their confidence, willpower and commitment to learn. He asked the students to make best use of the expertise being provided by the resource persons. He believes that the punctuality, discipline and commitment in grasping the inputs being provided in the training programmes would help them to get credentials at the highest level. He opined that students of this region who learnt communication skills in English are playing an active role in the world.

Prof. V Shekhar, Guest of Honour for the programme addressed the students. He said that the students need to shed their inhibitions and come out of their comfort zone and should start speaking in English. He advised them to come out of their shyness and should converse in English. By continuously speaking English with their peer group they will learn fast.

Prof. K Shankariah, Head, Dept. of Commerce, delivered his message to the students and said that the communication process is complete only when the receiver is able to understand the sender’s message without any distortion and this is possible only through proper grammar, vocabulary and phonetics. He asked the students to be sound in domain knowledge and expression of language so that they can be employable.

Prof. G Laxman, Chairman, Board of Studies, Dept. of Commerc, OU is of the opinion that first generation students are good in domain knowledge. If training is provided in English, they will rock the world. He said students of Dept. of Commerce, University College of Commerce & Business Management, Osmania University, of 2006 batch have attended the sessions in large numbers to make the best use of the training programme and became top Officers in Government & Non – Governmnet organizations.

Prof. Rajashekar, Head, Dept. of Commerce, Sri Venkateshwara University asked the students to conduct SWOT analysis on themselves and improve their strengths and link them to the opportunities.

Venkataramana, Director, Hyderabad Institute of Management Skills said that listening is the secret behind in learning English. He advised the students to buy small transistor and start listening to radio news.
