Ilayaraja must be paid before playing his songs

Music master Ilayaraja has composed songs in more than 1000 films. The maestro says that he has the right over all his songs and the television channel and radio station must pay him if they play his songs.
Ilayaraja said, “It’s an infringement of my intellectual property rights. I have the rights to every song I’ve composed over the years. Those interested to play my songs on television channels and radio stations should buy the rights from me. I will share the profits with producers, singers and lyricists.”

He also made it clear that it is illegal to share the videos of his songs on Youtube and Daily Motion.

He said, “Those who want the rights to my songs may approach me or the producer’s council.”

Ilayaraja is known for composing music in many different Indian languages.
