Volkswagen the automobile giant has been named as the official partner for the fourth and fifth season of the Indian Premier League.
“We are extremely happy to commence what will certainly be a fruitful association with Volkswagen. It is appropriate that two organisations that epitomize dynamism, enterprise and excellence have joined hands,” IPL chairman Chirayu Amin said.
Neeraj Garg, member of the board and director of Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt Ltd said, “IPL stands for the people’s game in India and what better way to associate our brand which literally means people’s car.”
Advertisers spent Rs 1300 crore plus across all sports channels on Indian cricket in 2010. Of this Rs 1,300 crore ad-revenue on cricket, 40 % – 45% went to IPL -3 alone.
Cricket World Cup in 2011 and IPL alone account for over Rs 1,200 crore of advertising spends in less than three months.
ICC World Cup scheduled from February 19 to April 2 may generate nearly Rs 750 crore in advertising revenues. High profile IPL-4 on SET Max from April 8 to May 22 will generate whopping Rs 1,000 crore ad revenue as per industry estimates.
India – West Indies series in July 2011 and Champions League at the end of 2011 together will generate about Rs 220 crore advertising revenue.
