Sri Lanka 85 for 2 on 1st day in 1st test The start of the first test in Colombo between India and Sri Lanka was delayed by five hours because of rain and wet conditions. The play was extended by an hour and at least 42 overs were to be bowled, but poor light curtailed the game.

Sri Lanka were 85/2 at stumps with Malinda Warnapura’s unbeaten half-century. Mahela Jayawardene was batting on 16 runs when bad light put a halt to play 40 minutes before the scheduled time, with only 22 overs bowled.

Lanka won the yoss and elected to bat. India struck early and picked two Sri Lankan wickets. Ishant Sharma got the wicket of opener MG Vandort caught by Wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik. Left-arm bowler Zaheer Khan dismissed Kumar Sangakkara for 12 runs caught by Rahul Dravid at first slip.

From Day 2, play will start 30 minutes early to compensate the loss of playing time.
