Olympics 2012: Sushil Kumar Wins Wrestling Silver

Wrestler Sushil Kumar become the first Indian to win two Olympic medals. The 29-year-old from Haryana, who won a bronze at the 2008 Beijing Games, lost to Japan’s Tatsuhiro Yonemitsu 3-1 in the final of the Men’s 66kg freestyle wrestling event to claim silver.

Sushil, who won the gold medal at the World Cadet Games in 1998, won the bronze at the 2008 Beijing Games thus becoming only the second Indian to win an Olympic wrestling bronze after KD Jadhav in Helsinki in 1952.

Sushil became the first Indian to win gold at the World Championships by defeating Russia’s Alan Gorgaev in Moscow in 2010. He followed up with gold medals at the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. He is also the recipient of Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna.
