Former Indian Women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj scored 75 runs and shared an unbeaten 59-run stand for the 7th wicket with Jhulan Goswami (24) as India edged out Sri Lanka by 35 runs to book a place in the Super Six stage of the ICC Women’s World Cup on Thursday.
Deciding to bat first in the Group B match at the Bankstown Oval, India slumped to 78 for seven before reaching a total of 137 for 7.
The Sri Lankan women cricket team was ploughed through by Indian bowlers Amita Sharma (3/19), Rumeli Dhar (2/10) and Gouher Sultana (2/16) and skittled out the opposition for 102 in 44.2 overs.
