Hyderabadi Gagan Narang Wins India’s 1st Medal
Gagan Narang from Hyderabad has won the first medal for India in the London Olympic Games 2012 when he got a Bronze Medal in the 10m air rifle event.
Narang had won the Asian gold, the Commonwealth gold and even the World championship gold. Now he added the Olympic bronze to his tally.
Narang who shot 598 in the qualification and held his nerve in the tense tie-breaker to claim the bronze medal in a virtual neck-and-neck contest. Narang had a total score of 701.1.Alin George Moldoveanu of Romania bagged the coveted gold medal with a total of 702.1 while Italy’s Niccolo Campriani took the silver with a score of 701.5.
Beijing gold medallist and defending champion Abhinav Bindra failed to make the final, slipping in the final series with three 9s, succumbing to time pressure.
