England captain Kevin Pietersen resigned and Coach Peter Moores was sacked by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Wednesday.

Pietersen confirmed his resignation, and his intention to continue as a batsman. He was captain for only six months, having taking over after Michael Vaughan resigned.

Hugh Morris, managing director of England cricket, confirmed in a statement that Pietersen had resigned and that Moores had been sacked.

England opener Andrew Strauss will lead the team for their tour of the West Indies, which starts in two weeks.
