Australia wins 2009 ICC Champions Trophy
Australia have won the 2009 ICC Champions Trophy by beating New Zealand by 6 wickets helped by Shane Watson’s unbeaten century in the final held at Centurion on Monday.
New Zealand played without skipper Daniel Vettori who was injured and could make 200/9 in the allotted 50 overs. Struggling to make runs, Martin Guptill (40) and Aaron Redmond (26) took 15.1 overs to add 61 runs for the second wicket, while Neil Broom (37) and James Franklin (33) made 65 in 14.1 overs. Nathan Hauritz of Australia claimed 3/37.
Chasing a target of 201, Australia recovered from 6 for 2 wickets and Watson made an unbeaten 129-ball 105 (10X4, 4X6) and starred in a 128-run stand with Cameron White (62) to reach 206/4 in 45.2 overs.
