Buoyed by centuries from openers Gautam Gambhir (167) and Virender Sehwag (131) India made 417 for the loss of both the openers on the first day of the second test being played at Kanpur. At close of stumps Rahul Dravid (85 not out) and Sachin Tendulkar (20 not out) were at the crease.
Gambhir first starred in a blistering 233-run partnership with Sehwag in just 41.2 overs before forging another 137-run association with Rahul Dravid (85 not out).
