1st ODI: Australia beat India by 4 runs
In a nail biting finish, Australia beat India in the 1st ODI by just 4 runs at the Reliance Stadium in Vadodara on Sunday.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first Australia made 292 for 8 in the allotted 50 overs. Tim Paine (50), skipper Ponting (74), Cameron White (51) and Michael Hussey (73) contributed to the Australian total. Nehra (10-0-58-2) and Ishant Sharma (10-0-50-3) were the successful bowlers.
Replying to reach a target of 293 for a win, India lost Sehwag ans Sachin cheaply. In spite of contributions from Gautam Gambhir (68), Virat Kohli (30) and MS Dhoni (34), India were struggling at 201 for 7 with the last 10 overs remaining.
Praveen Kumar (40 not out) and Harbhajan Singh(49) came up with a defiant 84-run stand off 57 balls for the eighth wicket and India has to make 9 runs of 6 balls in the last over. With Harbhajan getting out on the second ball, Australia could squeeze a win by just four runs. For Australia Watson (10-0-70-2) and Johnson (10-0-59-2) were the successful bowlers.
