The Andhra Pradesh state Cabinet has approved the proposal for a Rs 3.15-crore memorial at Pavuralagutta in Nallamala forest where the former Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, was killed in a helicopter crash along with four others.
The memorial consists of a Dr Y.S.
Rajasekhar Reddy Smrithi Vanam on 1,412 hectares belonging to the forest department. It will have a 4-km trekking track to the accident spot, a peacock breeding centre and an elephant sanctuary.
There will be a memorial also in or near Hyderabad. A six-member Cabinet sub committee was constituted to identify a suitable site for this. The government is also planning to set up another memorial at YSR’s Idupulapaya estate.
The forest department will seek the Central government’s environmental clearance for the memorial in Nallamala.
