DV Sadananda Gowda, Lok Sabha member from Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency and a staunch follower of BS Yeddyurappa, has been elected by the BJP legislature party to be the next chief minister of Karnataka.
The BJP legislators met at a hotel in the presence of BJP central observers Rajnath Singh and Arun Jaitley whose efforts for a unanimous election have failed. A secret ballot was conducted. According to sources, Sadananda Gowda got 63 votes in his favour and Jagadish Shettar got 55.
The election of Sadananda Gowda shows the tight hold of Yeddyurappa over the majority of BJP legislators. He is reported to have told his confidantes that he will be back as CM in six months.
Observers say that with Sadananda Gowda as CM, no action will be taken on Lokayukta Santosh Hegde report on illegal mining.
