Vizag schools for corporate make over

The Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation launched an adoption programme Sweekaram to give a corporate look to its schools. The GVMC runs around 97 schools, of which 72 are primary, eight upper primary and 17 high schools. Around 30,000 children study in these schools.
According to the new initiative, the GVMC has asked some donors and corporate houses in the city to come forward and adopt some schools. A total of 39 donors have came forward and with their help a total of 48 schools would be renovated. With the help of the donors, the GVMC is planning to provide additional classrooms, bathrooms, drinking water facilities and so on. The famous Daspalla hotel group has already initiated the works in RBM upper primary school, one of the two schools the group promised to give a facelift.
The group would provide uniforms to students, purified drinking water facilities, furniture, lights, fans and other such facilities. The civic authorities planned to create facilities like toilets, drinking water, library, computer lab, electrification and additional rooms with an amount of Rs 10 crore from the donors and Rs 12 crore from the GVMC funds.
