Villagers file case on Vizag SEZ
Some of the aggrieved villagers of Gorapudi and Lalam villages of Rambilli mandal in Visakhapatnam district filed a writ petition in the AP High Court on Thursday challenging the acquisition of 8,056 acres of land for expansion of the Special Economic Zone.
The contention of the petitioners is that the AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation has submitted a requisition to the government to acquire of 8056.73 acres in different villages of Achutahapuram and Rambilli mandal for expansion of SEZ even though the land does not form part of the notified area approved by the Central SEZs Board.
They submitted that land covered under the acquisition was agricultural land in which they were cultivating crops including paddy. Since the central government has taken a decision not to acquire agricultural land for establishing special economic zones, the petitioners sought the court to direct the district collector not to dispossess them of their land.
