The UPA leadership is said to be not in favour of creating a separate state of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh and would prefer to empower the Telangana region as suggested by the Srikrishna Committee report in its option six.
The decision is likely to be conveyed by the Union government to the eight recognised political parties sometime in February. The central government is also getting ready to deal with any agitation that is likely to be mounted by those demanding a separate state.
The UPA leadership is reportedly apprehensive of a backlash in Rayalseema and coastal Andhra regions if the state is bifurcated. Besides, the ruling dispensation does not want to open a Pandora’s Box as creation of a separate state could re-ignite similar demands in many other states.
