Union Cabinet reshuffle on Monday?

The hour-long meeting of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh today gave further momentum to the speculation of an imminent Cabinet reshuffle as early as next Monday. Strengthening the view of a possible cabinet expansion was the meeting of Pranab Mukherjee with DMK chief Karunanidhi.

Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran has already resigned and Corporate Affairs Minister Murli Deora has also offered to resign on the KG issue. Mamata Benarjee has left the cabinet to become the CM of West Bengal. There are a number of ministers holding dual charge like Kapil Sibal who has Telecom and HRD. P K Bansal handles portfolios of Science and Technology, Earth Sciences and Parliamentary Affairs.

Selhi watchers say that Finance, Home, Defence and External Affairs will not have any change of guard but many other ministries will have change of ministers. Some ministers of state may be promoted.

There is also news that Lalu Prasad Yadav may also join the cabinet. DMK has to find replacements for Raja and Maran.
