Union Budget hikes allocation to Social security & Defence
Pranab Mukherjee presented in the Lok Sabha Today the Union Government’s interim budget that makes no changes in direct and indirect taxes.
The budget has an allocation of Rs 1,31,317 cr for its Bharat Nirman social sector schemes and hikes the defence expenditure by 34 % in the year 2009-10 to Rs 1,41,703 cr from Rs 1,05,600 crore last year.
To manage the revenue deficit of 4 to 5.5 % fiscal deficit during FY’10, the budget provides for nearly tripling market borrowings to over Rs 3,00,000 cr.
In the Social Security sector, Bharat Nirman scheme gets Rs 40,900 cr and the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme Rs 30,100 cr, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan Rs 13,100 cr, Integrated Child Development Scheme Rs 6,705 cr, National Rural Health Mission Rs 12,070 cr, Jawaharlal Nehuru Urban Renewal Scheme Rs 11,842 cr, Rajiv Gandhi Rural Drinking Water Mission Rs 7,400 cr and Total Rural Sanitation Programme Rs 1,200 cr.
