Hyderabad, Sept 12 (INN): The Telangna Rashtra Samithi on Thursday opposed the merger of neighbouring gram panchayats into the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
Talking to reporters here TRS MLA Harishwar Reddy said that the State Government was go ahead with the merger of gram panchayats excluding Manikonda village in the Hyderabad metro. Describing the merger as illegal, he said that a decision of merger could not be taken without holding an all-party meeting. He pointed out the Lanco Hills, owned by Congress MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, located in Manikonda panchayat has been excluded from merger.
Alleging that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy was behind the merger of gram panchayats into the GHMC’s jurisdiction, Harishwar Reddy threatened to launch an agitation against the same.
It may be mentioned that the GHMC’s General Body meeting is scheduled on September 16th and 17th wherein it would also take up the issue of merger of gram panchayats.
