In a bid to mount pressure on the Centre to expedite the process for separate Telangana, MLAs of Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) staged a dharna in front of Speaker N. Kiran Kumar Reddy’s residence on Tuesday evening demanding immediate acceptance of their resignations. They were later removed by the police.
MLAs belonging to TRS, E. Rajender, T. Harish Rao, E. Ravinder Reddy and K.T. Rama Rao, accompanied by PR MLA A. Maheswar Reddy, called on the Speaker and informed him that they found no point in clinging to their posts when scores of students and youth were sacrificing their lives for Telangana. Speaker Kiran Kumar Reddy reportedly sought two to three days time to personally interact with the “emotionally charged” members before taking a final decision. The MLAs resolved that they would meet the Speaker on a daily basis on the issue.
