Telugu Desam divided on Telangana issue
With only a week left for the crucial Telugu Desam meeting on Telangana, differences cropped up among party members on Thursday.
Defying the party chief, N. Chandrababu Naidu’s orders, the TD leaders grabbed media attention with their personal opinions on Telangana. To add to the confusion, former MP, G. Sukhendar Reddy, who is facing allegations of going against party candidate, M. Narsimhulu, in the bypolls, called on T. Devendar Goud at his residence here.
Party observers also submitted report to the party chief claiming that Reddy had gone against the party candidate in Aleru. This was confirmed by the party’s Nalgonda district in-charge, E. Dayakar. Mr Dayakar said some members of the party’s politburo have requested Mr Naidu to take action against Sukhendar. The decision was pending, he added.
The meeting between Reddy and Goud is being read by political observes as a major development. Soon after his meeting with Mr Goud, Mr Reddy raised his voice on the separate statehood issue and accused the party leadership of hatching a plot to expel him from the TD.
