Congress president Sonia Gandhi met both home minister P Chidambaram and finance minister Pranab Mukherjee separately in a bid to neutralise the differences between them arising out of the damaging controversy over a finance ministrynote on 2G spectrum suggesting that Chidambaram as finance minister in UPA-I failed to check ex-telecom minister A Raja in the pricing policy of 2G.
Chidamabaram reportedly offered to resign but was asked to show restraint. Meanwhile, Pranab ahead of meeting Sonia described the home minister as a valued colleague and a pillar of strength indicating moves of reconciliation. Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh who arrives from the US today evening is expected to take stock of the situation.
However, the Supreme Court is hearing Janata Party president Subramanyam Swamy’s petition and its outcome will have a bearing on the UPA-II internal feud.
