The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy disclosed that Sonia Gandhi will launch Arogyasri-II in Ongole on July 17. Under the scheme, all Below Poverty Line card-holders in the state could avail of medical treatment for specified diseases in corporate hospitals and government hospitals.
Arogyasri-I, which is currently being implemented in a handful of districts of the state, will be extended to five more districts while Arogyasri-II will be launched in 18 districts, the CM said. Under Arogyasri-I, patients will get medical treatment under an insurance cover while Arogyasri-II will provide free treatment for diseases that are not covered under the former.
The Chief Minister asked the district Collectors to initiate steps immediately to identify patients for the screening camps.
