UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, along with Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, AP Chief Minister K Rosaiah, Union law minister and in-charge of Congress affairs in Andhra Pradesh M Veerappa Moily and APCC chief D Srinivas, undertook an aerial survey of Kurnool and Mahabubnagar districts which were severely affected by devastating floods.
After the helicopter air-survey, Sonia Gandhi had a brief meeting with AP chief Minister and later left for Delhi.
The AP Chief Minister handed over a report on the grim flood situation and also requested that the Krishna floods be declared as a National calamity. He also requested for speedy central relief for the flood victims and affected areas.
The situation at Krishna District is still alarming. River Krishna turned almost into a sea of water as a record 10.61 lakh cusecs of flood water reached Prakasam Barrage. This is the heaviest flood in river Krishna in more than 106 years as the previous record stands at 10.30 lakh cusecs in 1903.
