Rayapati quits Congress over Telangana
Hyderabad, Oct 4 (INN): Guntur MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao on Friday resigned from the primary membership of the Congress party in protest against the Union Cabinet’s decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh to carve out Telangana.
Talking to reporters here, Rayapati said that by taking a decision to bifurcate the State, the Congress party has done gross injustice to Telugu people. He said that the Congress party would face a rout in Seemandhra region. Further, he said that the party would not achieve its goal of winning maximum number seats in Telangana as nearly 30 per cent of population in the region hails from Seemandhra and they would vote against the party.
Rayapati also said that several other leaders from Seemandhra region would resign from the Congress party.
Surprisingly, Rayapati also praised Narendra Modi, the Prime Ministerial candidate of BJP, a party which openly supported Telangana.
It may be mentioned that Rayapati had already sent his resignation to Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and is yet to be accepted.
