Priyanka may contest elections
The Congress on Tuesday described both AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka as the country’s youth icons in an attempt to reach out to the 55 per cent of India’s population which is under 25.
While senior party leaders, including the external affairs minister, Pranab Mukherjee, and the AICC general secretary, Digvijay Singh, have openly endorsed the Amethi MP’s name as a potential Prime Minister, the Congress brought up the name of his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra with just a few months to go before the next general elections.
The party senior leaders said there was a spontaneous demand from people and party units across the country to bring Priyanka Vadra into active politics.
The Congress spokesperson, Jayanthi Natarajan, did not confirm nor deny about any move to field Priyanka in the Lok Sabha elections from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh.
