Plea in Supreme Court against Chiranjeevi’s public meeting

Plea in Supreme Court against Chiranjeevi’s public meetingA public interest litigation petition (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court(SC) by the Tirupati Intellectual Forum(TIF) seeking a direction to prevent Chiranjeevi from holding a public meeting to launch his proposed political party at the Avilala tank-bed in Tirupati on August 26. According to the petitioners, the tank-bed spread over 40 acres has to used only for water-harvesting.

The petition was mentioned in the SC on Wednesday and is expected to come up for hearing on Thursday. It referred to an SC order of February 23, 2006, which said that use of this land for public programmes and constructions was prohibited. The forum said permission given for Chiranjeevi’s rally by the Chittoor Collector and Tirupati Urban Develop-ment Authority officials was in violation of the SC orders.
