Obama’s lead over McCain narrowing down

Obama’s lead over McCain narrowing down Democratic Party presumptive presidential nominee, Barack Obama’s tour of Iraq and Afghanistan last month has failed to change public perceptions of his war-management abilities.

A new CBS News poll shows only 20 per cent of those surveyed saying that Obama is very likely to be an effective commander-in-chief, down 4 percentage points from last month.

Republican candidate McCain is seen as very likely to be effective by 38 per cent of respondents, down eight points from last month but still significantly ahead of Obama.

Obama, who led McCain in double digits, is now barely holding on the lead in the latest polls and his camp is worried about his narrowing lead over Republican rival John McCain in recent polls.
