NSA invoked against BJP’s Varun Gandhi
A scion of Nehru family, Varun Gandhi, at present the BJP’s Hindutva Youth Icon and its LS candidate from Pilibhit in UP, has been booked under National Security Act(NSA) by the Uttar Pradesh government for inciting communal tensions.
Varun now faces the prospect of being under detention for up to one year without trial as Pilibhit district magistrate Ajay Chauhan issued the order under section 3 (2) of the National Security Act 1980.
According to UP government sources, the NSA had been invoked as the charges of inciting communal passion by making provocative and inflammatory speeches during meetings held on March 7 at Dalganj and on March 8 at Barkhera area of Pilibhit district have been confirmed with tangible evidence.
Under the provisions of the NSA, Varun Gandhi cannot get bail at least for six months and if the charges are proved he may get a jail term of ten years.
