Nitin Gadkari takes over as BJP president

Nitin Gadkari has been appointed by the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Parliamentary Board as the party’s president. Aged 52, he is the youngest and the first Maharashtrian president of the BJP.
Nitin Gadkari hails from Nagpur, the headquarters of the RSS and was a Sangh swayamsevak before becoming an ABVP leader. At present, he is the president of the Maharashtra BJP. He proved his mettle as an effective minister in the Shiv Sena-BJP government in the State 10 years back.
Though an ‘outsider’ in Delhi circles, he is known in the BJP as a clear thinker having a forward-looking vision and an organiser who knows how to take the party along.
