The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Wednesday suspended its Osmanabad MP Padamsinha Patil from the primary membership of the party following his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a double murder case.
NCP general secretary and Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Praful Patel sought to underline the fact that the party had completely distanced itself from Patil by stating that it would be a personal matter between the MP and the courts.
Patel said the NCP did not want to take a knee-jerk action and waited till it had all facts in hand. The party, according him, decided to refer the matter to its central disciplinary committee (CDC) on Monday. The CDC met on Wednesday.
A statement released to the media after the CDC meeting articulated the NCP’s firm belief in setting highest standards of probity in public life and that the law should take its own course.
