Muammar Gaddafi killed in NATO offensive

Deposed Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi is reported to have died of wounds suffered in his capture near his hometown of Sirte on Thursday, according to a senior military official of National Transitional Council (NTC).

International news agencies have reported that Gaddafi was captured and wounded in both legs and in the head at dawn on Thursday as he tried to flee in a convoy which was attacked by NATO warplanes.

NTC troops surrounded the Mediterranean coastal town of Sirte for weeks in a struggle to snuff out the last pocket of resistance against the revolution that ended Gaddafi’s 42-year rule.
