Mekapati Quits Lok Sabha
Hyderabad, Aug 5 (INN): YSR Congress MP from Nellore Mekaptai Rajamohan Reddy has submitted his resignation to the Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar. His resignation was in protest against the way in which the state bifurcation was handled by the Centre and is unilateral and authoritarian attitude.
“I am sending the resignation to the Speaker and if she wants me to personally hand it over, I will go and give it to her,” he told reporters here on Monday.
The resignation is in protest against the double standards of Congress and TDP and the unilateral decision taken on the division of the state without taking into considering the feelings of the stakeholders, he said.
While Chandrababu Naidu has given letter giving the nod for the division of the state, his MPs and MLAs and others are on an agitation mode in Seemandhra. The situation is no different with Congress either.
“The petty mindedness of the Congress has opened up many old wounds and the country is on the boil now. We are not against the bifurcation; we are opposing the conduct of the Congress, with the tacit support of TDP, is looking for short-term gains and has stirred a Pandoras Box.
All stake-holders should be consulted before taking such important decisions and the Congress has ignored the basic rule of consensus. Any decision taken by the Centre should be agreeable to all concerned and no region should be put to a disadvantage.
“My resignation is in protest against the adamant attitude of the Congress and its double standards along with TDP on the issue,” he said. While Congress takes a decision to bifurcate the state and TDP gives a letter supporting the move, the leadership is silent even as the leaders are speaking on regional lines.
Congress leader Digvijay Singh now speaking in terms of appointing a Committee is ridiculous, he said adding that his resignation is in protest against the double standards and authoritarian nature of Congress on the division of state issue.
