Maoists call for Telangana bandh on January 2
Maoist central committee member Mallojula Koteshwar Rao called for a Telangana bandh on January 2 in support of a separate Telangana state.
Rao, who is also known as Kishenji, was speaking over telephone with a vernacular TV channel said his party was also calling for a bandh in Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal to express solidarity with the demand for bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
The Maoist leader maintained the bandh was also opposed to the appointment of E.S.L. Narasimhan as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh. He said Mr. Narasimhan, as the Governor of Chhattisgarh, was instrumental in unleashing of terror on tribal population in Bastar forests.
