Lok Sabha passes civil nuclear damages bill
The union government has taken on board the amendments proposed by the opposition parties to the civil nuclear liability bill, Minister of State for Science and Technology Prithviraj Chavan said adding that it culminated the journey which Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh took in July 2005. The bill was tabled in the parliament today.
The Lok Sabha Wednesday passed the civil nuclear damages bill after 18 amendments were made to the proposed atomic law that triples the liability cap to Rs.1,500 crore from the earlier Rs.500 crore on an operator in case of an accident. The word ‘intent’ was also dropped from section 17 of the act.
