LK Advani resigns as Leader of Opposition in LS
LK Advani, veteran leader of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has resigned Today as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and has been appointed as the chairman of the BJP’s Parliamentary Party after duly amending the constitution of BJP. Sushma Swaraj will take over as Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
Advani, 82, who has guided the rise of BJP from the mid-eighties, is expected to guide the party in the role of a mentor.
These changes in the party were decided in consultation with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Decks have also been cleared for the appointment of Maharashtra BJP chief Nitin Gadkari as the next president of BJP in place of Rajnath Singh, who has completed his term of office.
