Karnataka Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa is facing stiff challenge from dissidents led by three Bellary Ministers-cum-mine owners, who claim they have the support of more than 40 MLAs. The BJP has 117 MLAs in the 225-member Legislative Assembly.
Tourism Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy called for a leadership change saying that it was essential for the party to not only complete its full five-year term but also to ensure that it would continue to come back to power in the State. The dissident group is trying to project Speaker Jagadish Shettar as the alternative to Yeddyurappa.
Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa has said he will not succumb to the pressure tactics of the Bellary Ministers. He is thinking of stringent action against dissident activity.
