Kalam double frisked by Security at NY airport

The former President of India, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam had to endure the indignity of being double frisked by the security personnel at a New York airport on September 29, when he was aboard an Air India flight, which was to take off.

Kalam was already subjected to private screening. However, after he entered the aircraft, U.S. security officials came and asked for his jacket and shoes, claiming that these items were not checked according to prescribed procedure during the private screening.

The 80 year-old Kalam coolly handed over his jacket and shoes. The security personnel checked and returned.

The U.S. embassy said an apology was hand-delivered to the 80 year-old Kalam by Charge d’Affaires to US Ambassador to India Peter Burleigh on behalf of the U.S. administration.
