The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today expelled senior leader and ex-minister Jaswant Singh from the primary membership of the party in view of his comments on Jinnah and his criticism of Sardar Patel in his book “Jinnah – India, Partition, Independence”.
The BJP president Rajnath Singh, who had on Tuesday issued a statement totally distancing the party from Jaswant Singh’s book announced the decision of his expulsion in Simla where the BJP top brass is having a Chintan Baitak.
Jaswant Singh described his expulsion from BJP as “saddening and regrettable” and he would not appeal against the decision or seek any review though he felt that the party did not follow procedures.
Singh also made it clear that he did not regret writing the book on Mohammad Ali Jinnah and stood by whatever he has written on the “painful period of history”.
Jaswant Singh said that he is not resigning from parliament or retiring from politics.
