S. Jaipal Reddy, Union Petroleum Minister, met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday to press for the creation of a separate State.
During the course of the 40-minute meeting, the senior Congress leader from the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh, is believed to have appraised the Prime Minister on the prevailing political situation in the Telangana region. The issue of the resignations of party MLAs and MPs also figured in the discussions.
According to sources, Jaipal Reddy informed the PM about the strong sentiment for a separate Telangana State. He is said to have urged that a decision on the issue should be taken at the earliest.
After the meeting, Jaipal Reddy refused to divulge the contents of discussions he had with the PM stating that he had given his assessment of and views on the Telangana issue.
There is lot of pressure on S Jaipal Reddy to rersign from the cabinet and as an MP in the cause of separate state for Telangana.
