Holbrooke not pressing for Indo-Pak talks
US special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard Holbrooke, along with US Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen, arrived in New Delhi and had discussions with foreign secretary Shivshankar Menon and national security adviser M K Narayanan.
Holbrooke is understood to have appraised the Indian Government about the latest initiatives and implementation of the US administration’s new strategy In Afghanistan and Pakistan and the issue of Terrorism perpetrated by al Quaida and Taliban described as common threat to the region.
Speaking to press persons, Holbrooke said that pushing India and Pakistan to the negotiating table is not in his agenda.
India has taken a stand that it will not hold any talks with Pakistan until the terror infrastructure on Pak’s soil are completely dismantled.
