Government of India bans CPI(Maoist)
The Union Government on Monday banned the CPI(Maoist) under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, calling it a terrorist organization after taking the decision at the highest level.
This outfit is now engaged in confrontation with security forces in Lalgarh-Midnapur area of West Bengal.
CPI(Maoist), which is the main Naxal group in the country, has been bracketed with 34 other organisations including LeT and SIMI who are in the list of banned outfits.
Such a ban would entail severest action from the GoI and on its orders by the security forces.
West Bengal’s ruling Left Front on Monday said it was against banning the CPI (Maoist) and will counter such outfits politically. However, the West Bengal government, headed by CPI(M) has to comply with the GoI order of ban.
