Focus on Muslim vote in AP bypolls
For the prestigious Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat, the main political parties have devised strategies to enlist the support of the minorities, especially the Muslims, who constitute more than 10 per cent of the total electorate in the constituency to wrest the seat.
It is estimated that there are more than 1.50 lakh minority voters as against the total of 14.64 lakh voters in Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat. Karimnagar seat hogged the limelight as the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) candidate, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, is contesting for the seat for the third time in four years to score a hat-trick.
The Congress candidate, T. Jeevan Reddy, is engaged in a spirited fight to defeat Mr Chandrasekhar Rao and revive the glory of the party in Karimnagar. While the Congress is heavily banking on the Majlis-Ittehadul-Muslimeen (MIM), which holds a significant sway over the Muslims in Karimnagar, Jagtial, Korutla and Metpalli mandals, the TRS has designed a counter strategy to avail the services of the leaders of Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and other Muslim organisations in the campaign.
The TRS district leadership has decided to distribute the specially prepared CDs containing the speeches of Chandrasekhar Rao in Urdu to the Muslims mainly in Karimnagar and Jagtial divisions
