The Union Government is working on the details of the Committee with senior officials and experts from different fields that will look into the Telangana statehood issue. The government is looking at a time frame of 12-18 months for the whole process of carving out a separate Telangana state.
The Union home minister, P Chidambaram, will hold consultations with his Cabinet colleagues before coming out with a formal statement of the government. He is believed to have briefed the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, following his meeting with the leaders of eight AP political parties on Wednesday and began holding individual consultations with the parties on Thursday.
A second round of discussion with the eight political parties, similar to January 5th meeting is likely to take place in the next 2-3 months.
