Congress : Separate Telangana not an election issue
After Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Ys Rajasekhar Reddy called on the Congress party president, Sonia Gandhi and a meeting with party core committee members, Pranab Mukherjee, A.K. Antony, Ahmed Patel and the AP affairs incharge Veerappa Moily, the Congress party has agreed to look into the issue of Telangana statehood, but there will no immediate announcement in this regard. There may be some kind of announcement by the Congress high command before the elections.
The APCC chief D. Srinivas, a known supporter of statehood, was not invited to the meeting with Mrs Gandhi.
Agreeing with AP Chief Minister Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, the party high command decided to fight the elections alone.
According to reliable sources, Dr Reddy spoke against bifurcation of the state by quoting survey reports which suggested that there is no pro-statehood sentiment.
