Congress-DMK spat on seat sharing continues
The stalemate between Congress and DMK on seat sharing in the forthcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections continues. The DMK was ready to pull out of UPA but the Congress brushed aside the threat. The Congress would get SP support in case DMK withdraws from UPA. Congress also feels that DMK cannot fight the elections alone. The Congress wants 63 seats and the DMK is willing to give 51.
Meanwhile, the Congress sources indicated that an alliance with Jayalalitha’s AIDMK is also not ruled out if DMK sticks to its position and does not yield.
Pranab Mukherjee calling M Karunanidhi are likely to meet to sort out the differences. According to indications, the Congress may settle for 60 seats but will not yield on its demand for certain winnable constituencies.
