Congress and SP getting closer

Congress and SP getting closerHolding out hope that it could save both the nuclear deal and the UPA Government should the Left parties withdraw their support, the Samajwadi Party has been clearly signaling warmth towards the Congress.

That warmth took its first formal shape today when SP General Secretary Amar Singh, within six hours of his arrival from the US, went to the residence of External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee at 11 pm on June 30.

Although there was no official statement from either side after the meeting which ended shortly before midnight, sources said that the two have broken the ice and set the stage for negotiations ahead of the UNPA meeting on July 3 and Mulayam Singh Yadav’s arrival to the capital on July 1.
