CM Reviews Relief Works Over Phone

Hyderabad, July 12 (INN): Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, who is in Delhi today reviewed over phone with Ministers, Chief Secretary Dr.P.K.Mohanty and other officials about the relief, rescue and precautionary for the affected people, particularly in the low lying areas measures following heavy rains in the State.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister asked Ministers Danam Nagender, P. Bala Raju and others to visit the affected areas and supervise the relief measures. He also directed the Chief Secretary to keep constant vigil and closely monitor the situation round the clock with Officials, District Collectors and take all measures to help the public and prevent loss of life and property. Following directions from the Chief Minister, the Chief Secretary reviewed the situation with the officials concerned and directed various departments to take required steps to help the people.

Officials informed that during this South West Monsoon (as on 12-07-2013), the State received 210.6 mm rainfall till today as against normal 172.9 mm with an overall deviation of (+22) per cent. IMD officials forecast heavy to very heavy Rainfall in some places in all the Coastal Districts and many of the Telangana and Rayalaseema districts. Accordingly, Collectors of these districts and line Departments are already directed to take all necessary measures to deal with the situation.

All the District Collectors particularly Coastal Andhra Pradesh Districts have to keep a close watch round the clock and take all precautionary and preventive measures and inform the action taken to Commissioner, Disaster Management. The District Collectors are directed to alert the people living in the low-lying coastal areas and other affected districts and to move the people to the safer places. The Collectors are also asked to make necessary arrangements for evacuating the likely-to-be affected people and the animals to safer places like cyclone shelters, school buildings, gram panchayat offices, public health centers, high schools, rice mills, cinema theaters etc,.

The Collectors were also directed to immediately undertake rescue and relief measures wherever necessary. They are also instructed to take all necessary measures to prevent loss of life and damage to property. Collectors are also told to provide relief and assistance as applicable to those families whose houses were fully/severely damaged in the rains, after thorough verification of the damage. Medical and Health Dept. and Animal Husbandry Dept. are told to keep stock of essential medicines and make available the services of medical and para medical staff at short notice.

The Collectors have been asked to ensure sanitation and availability of light, drinking water at cyclone shelters and other places where the evacuated people are being kept. For this purpose, the Village level officers and officials of Panchayat Raj (PR) Dept. must be alerted. The Joint Collectors in coordination with Civil Supplies Dept. are instructed to keep adequate food stocks in readiness including drinking water sachets, emergency lamps/lights etc. Medical and Health department are asked to keep sufficient quantities of essential medicines and 108 & 104 medical ambulance services are kept ready for providing medical facilities, first aid to the people who are affected.

The Electricity department, APSRTC, South Central Railway and Fisheries dept are directed to take required steps to meet any eventuality. The Police and Fire departments are told to keep constant vigil and be in touch with district administration. The R&B and PR Department are alerted to keep vigil on roads and close watch on all bridges and culverts in vulnerable areas.

The Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Dept. is told to keep a close watch and see people living in low lying areas are evacuated whenever and wherever needed. The Disaster Management officials should be in touch with the National Disaster Response Force, Army, Navy etc. to keep their forces ready for rescue operations at short notice.
