Chidambaram offers to resign over naxal attack
In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, the Home Minister P Chidambaram offered to quit after the massacre of 75 personnel from CRPF’s 62nd Battalion and one Chhattisgarh policemen by Maoists in Dantewada on Tuesday. Taking full responsibility for the attack, Chidambaram said the “buck stops at my desk.”
But Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday rejected his resignation.
Even the Bharatiya Janata Party issued a statement saying that if the home minister quits, it would be construed as a victory for the naxalites.
