Chidambaram brings T-issue back to square one

Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram, replying to the debate on a calling attention motion on the Telangana issue in Lok Sabha, said that all political parties of Andhra Pradesh should convey their stand on the separate Telangana demand at the earliest so that the Central government could act as a facilitator and arrive at a solution within three months.

Chidambaram stated that four of the eight recognised political parties in A.P. have not made up their mind on the Telangana issue while the TRS, BJP, and the CPI wanted a separate Telangana state, the CPI-M had said it was opposed to dividing A.P.

The Home Minister said that The delay in taking a decision on the issue was due to the fact that the situation on the ground altered after the Union government made a statement on December 9, 2009 on the issue. He added that the solution for the Telangana issue had to come from the Telugu-speaking people themselves.
